Studio: Old Sony MDR-6 (7506 precursor?)

iPod: Was a pair of Bose in ear that that I won which are really quite impressive if you like the sound of a full acoustimass system stuffed in your ear. More bass than I've ever heard in an in-ear. Completely inaccurate and "Bosey"

Until... I finally stuffed the Shure E4s (that I got as consultants' swag at a trade show) into my ears. My favorite headphones ever.

AKG 412-P

I bought them pretty recently, and after years of using cheap (really cheap) headphones I'm very, very happy. Sound quality is head and shoulders above my previous Sony headphones, and this 3D rotation system system -surprise, surprise- works, meaning that headphone surface fits to the ear perfectly. Also, very comfy, although they don't look like it.

Is there a reasonable way to fix this? If not, is there a decent quality ear-bud/earphone that has been found to be durable?

I have these as well. They've already been replaced once for free under warranty so check Shure's website. They have a pretty liberal warranty you should take advantage of if you can.

$100 buds will beat $100 closed in general, so I'd just stick with these or Etymotics if accuracy is your #1 concern and you want a closed headphone.

+ about a million on the Grados. I have the SR80s because the bigger foam on the ear cups was more comfortable. I cannot wear earbuds for more than about 20 minutes. Maybe I could get away with those isolations ones that work like earplugs, cause earplugs don't seem to bother me.

I have these too for the subway and other places that the Grados let too much goodness escape:

They are a little bassy, but they are comfortable because they are light and fit over my whole ear. I hate stuff touching my ears.
