Sirs, This is a silly debate before it even starts.
You're arguing over whether a band belongs in an incredibly broad genre or not. Seriously, skip the name-calling and go straight to the hugging. Both of you are entitled to your own opinion and the internet is getting in the way. Pissing-contests are even more ridiculous online then they are in real life.
Metal: Stupid or not stupid?
32I won't, because Protoolio is a chicken dumbhead and I'm pretty sure he smells funny.

Oh fuck dude. Are you sure you want to say that? On the INTERNET!?!?!

34Justin: I think we would get along fine. I doubt our politics are as far apart as you would think.
A poll like this is never going to objectively prove anything, but it can reflect the population of the site. I agree that metal is vast, but it can also be lumped together as metal, and be subjected to this binary vote. I never meant for this to sink to discussion of whether the people who like metal are stupid because I don't think that would be fair or correct. Also, I don't want to be anchored with crustpunks when the gun is pointed back at me.
The last time I actively bought any metal records, Euronymous was freshly dead, and Count Grishnackh was still at large. I have not followed closely, but I can say that I have liked several bands I have heard in the last couple of years, but not enough to buy them, but enough that I would if the right mood struck me. What strikes me as odd is that despite the wide range of forms within the genre, most of it is still drawing from the same sub goth well of imagery. None of the apples are falling far from the tree no matter how fast or slow it is.
I think metal has gotten the short end of the stick for a long time. There seemed to be a hardcore schism where the metal kids at punk rock shows were actively made to feel stupid, and they stopped showing up. It was about that time that I felt like I had to examine what I was listening to, and felt like I no longer had room from Quiet Riot or Scorpions power ballads. I apologize to metal, we were friends! I used to know you, I won't deny you any longer, but we have grown apart.
I don't need the fuck yeah horns people. I would rather talk to Ira after it is over and say "That was pretty cool!". Folded arms totally rock.

35I think the melvins are pretty metal. The Bit sounds like some sort of weird proto-metal thing

37You know, Johnny, you can still talk to the fuck yeah people after the show's over too. The difference is that they'll be smiling and happy, rather than studious and aware of how reserved they do or do not look.

38I know Ty, and I would/did/do. I just find that stuff distracting and subtractive from my own show experience.
I don't get why people want me to know how into things they are. Same goes for singing along, or crowd surfing, and a lot of dancing.
