Antero wrote:Michael Jackson. Off The Wall and Thriller era, obviously.
Despite the freakshow he has become, both of these records are pretty amazing.
I can't give a clear answer on this one because my parents played a lot of different stuff in the house, but I remember very clearly choosing Olatunji's
Drums Of Passion to put on the turntable a lot when it was my turn to pick the records.
That and the Sesame Street records.

The Beatles, probably. My parents used to play them a lot when I was a kid.
The first bands I ever "discovered" on my own (ie. heard on the radio) were I believe, The Kinks, Led Zeppelin and Alice Cooper.
I remember that before I even started kindergarten, the song "Hotel California" by the Eagles used to scare the hell out of me.

First song i remember really liking as a kid was "Whip It" by devo. I think I was around 5. Men at Work's Cargo was probably my first album, then I went into a big Bruce Springstein phase.

Remembering back a little farther now, there were the oldies on (i think) CBS AM radio. Frank Sinatra and big band stuff my grandfather was into, I remember riding around with him always liking the music.

It's hard to fully remember what came first for me. I know the first album I got was the Doors s/t LP, but before I bought records I used to listen to my dads music-mainstream rock and jazz, Queen stick out, a lot of my childhood memories are full of Queen and also Bowie. The frist band I really got into though would have been The Descendents and also at that time I was really into NoFX. Then I got the golden mix-tape off my big brother, The Offspring, Metallica, Nirvana, Cryptic Slaughter, Minor Threat, Jawbreaker, Bad Religion, D.R.I etc. That tape got me onto so much, hardcore for example.
What an interesting story by me.

I used to really like the song "Whole Lotta Love" by Led Zeppelin when I was like 5. The first time I ever heard it, I went and told my dad my transistor radio was broken.

Right after Kiss, I got into Metallica, Nirvana, and Black Sabbath/Ozzy. Looking back on it, Kiss had some tight (but stupid) songs. Sabbath and Nirvana are still on my playlist.

Blink 182. I was 11. Still have all their records. I don't give a fuck, that band is cool.
