You need an adjuster to get what you deserve, but you could start with an appraisal of market value by a buyer from Reckless. I think one of them used to practice in your basement.

Yeah, even the ones in bags all took on water. I have 5 good boxes left. If any salvage at all is possible for even some of the books and records that are just damp, place them vertically somewhat spaced out (open the bindings of books, but not the pages) and dehumidify and lower the temperature in a room ~70 degrees. Remove from plastic sleeves if you can to aid in drying. They will always be warp-y and fluffier, but this works.

Then:

Sue the clouds.

Holy shit. Flooded basements suck. Luckily, I escaped with only a little water getting into the basement and nothing was ruined. So sorry to hear about your record collection and books.

BTW- the Tribune is reporting that another similar storm might be heading our way late afternoon.
