That video surveillance is so prevalent in the UK is a sad testimony to the decline of civil liberties in the country that invented them. Yet another hysterical, Daily Mail-driven romance with the government's capacity for punition.

Honestly, as a UK resident, my TV viewing would plummet without these essential street cameras. The only thing I tune in for these days are the numerous TV reality "street crime surveillance" programmes where we get to see pissed-up morons knock the shit out of each other in Cardiff or Manchester city centres.

Usually with the Jamie Theakston or Ross Kemp narrating in the background.
