Fuck I love the hell out of Kiss but I cannot stand Gene Simmons.

Its absolutely great to watch old Kiss videos and watch how visibly pissed off he is at Ace's drunken antics.

Whenever I debate people on the merits of Kiss, I am never able to get past the, "How can you stand that asshole Gene Simmons?" question.

Then again, knowing Kiss, his whole persona is probably part of the gimmick. I could be very wrong on this though

I don't make it a practice to read or listen to interviews with people in bands whose music I like. It's not that interesting, the people themselves are often dull. I don't care.

I watched KISS to see Gene puking blood, Ace's guitar smoking, etc. I didn't speculate that Gene could be a jackass.
It's not part of the awesomeness that is KISS.

Rick Rubin may have some natural douche-y tendencies.

But c'mon.

Gene Simmons is a pro.

He is the Platonic Ideal of a professional douche.

And he knows it and embraces it and expects you to admire and laud him.

I 100% agree with this. Thank you for saying something I needed to hear. I've wasted too much time worrying about the Gene thing.

On that note, I know its been posted before, but here is all that needs to be said about Kiss.

Sorry guys, I guess my rant had nothing really to do with KISS. Just thinking of Gene makes my blood boil though, and its weird to think of people liking them (to me anyway) since I never met anyone who does.

Rick is probably dumb in real life, but hes so soft-spoken and quiet that he doesnt really bother me at all. He may not know what all the knobs do, but at least he stays out of my face about it.
