He also just finished living in a van for a few months. Buy swag. I'd imagine he could use the scratch.

I think that means he went on a long tour.

wikipedia wrote, and Magnet wrote and he told me to my face that:
Saddle Creek Records released his most recent album, To the Races August 22nd, 2006. The album, which was written while living out of his van outside Seattle the previous year

He was tracking demos to a battery powered MD portastudio in the van and using the facilities of a local restaurant.

BTW, can i feel free to use the genre-encompassing term 'poratastudio' around like 'formica' or 'kleenex' yet?

Stupid internet.

I loved both bands and saw them every chance I could. LFTR PLLR, in my opinion, sounded a lot like Archers of Loaf. At times. Their first record and the Entertainment and Arts ep, especially. I don't consider this a bad thing. LFTR PLLR were original enough, but there are undeniable similarities.

Yeah, I guess. LFTR PLLR had a pretty similar '90s "indie rock" sound, just like AOL. I think I find the guitar solos and the piano in The Hold Steady a bit grating. I always liked the music of LFTR PLLR more. In saying that, you can't fuck with the lyrics of Craig Finn.

But the comparison of the singer of Meneguar and Craig Finn is just laughable.

Was that around the time of White Trash Heroes? The bass tone on that record is so damn good.

Everything from vsGOAT forward had (mostly) Bean bass on it.
Some of the songs on Airports were done on a TB 1000s

Oh, okay. All the photos I've seen were a Jazz Bass and the live footage from near the end he's playing a Jazz as well, so I always assumed it was all he used.

Hold on...wait a minute...
The Bean was picked up during the Vee Vee tour. I thought it was right after GOAT, but it was later.
My mistake.

I was trying to find a picture of Matt playing the The Bean but instead I stumbled on these...

Archers Of Loaf
I'm not quite sure what this is.

And this is awesome...

Sooooooooooooooo, I've been collecting my Citibank credit card reward points for months and months now, not really finding anything they offer as an appropriate prize to save points for. What's interesting is that for members who acquire at least 10,000 points (no small task), they offer "Your Wish Fulfilled". You tell them what you want and they tell you how many points you'll need to earn that wish. So I start to live off my credit card, accumulating as many points as possible, while never spending more than I can afford to pay off each month.

Anyways, long story shortened: I get 10,000 points and immediately contact Citibank to see how many points it will take to get an Archers of Loaf reunion.
Here's what they wrote me:

Dear Glen,

I hope this email finds you well. Thank you for submitting your request for a Your Wish Fulfilled reward from ThankYou Network's customized rewards program.
The Your Wish Fulfilled program works with you to redeem for custom rewards not offered through the offers catalog, or website. These custom rewards often
include specific products, such as golf clubs or cameras, as well as gift certificates for experiences such as swimming with dolphins or hotel stays. A reunion tour or concert for Archers of Loaf is a wonderful wish, and I can understand your excitement! However, we cannot redeem ThankYou points for items or experiences that cannot be purchased through the retail market.

While researching your request, it became clear that Archers of Loaf still has a very active fan base and that a reunion tour or concert is a wish that many people share. I have no doubt that the band will hear their fans' requests and possibly in the future arrange a reunion concert, making your wish as well as that of a lot of other loyal fans come true!

As a Wish Specialist, I would be delighted to research a point quote for tickets to similar bands in your area. I can also research point quotes for DVDs, CDs, musical instruments, videos, and a wide variety of other options related to Archers of Loaf. If any of these options spark your interest, or if you have another experience you would like to consider, please contact me, and I would be happy to provide a point quote for you.

Again, I truly am sorry that we are unable to fulfill your Wish at this time. If there is any other way we may be of assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us. Wish Specialists are available to assist you Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 12 a.m. EST.

I saw Archers of Loaf at the UW Madison Union South cafeteria thing way back in the day, awesome show.

I saw him with Crooked Fingers at the High Noon on the Dignity and Shame tour. Awesome.

I hope he is doing well and rocking.

to hear them again at this time would be pointless.

but then again, i think rock and history should not repeat themselves.

...but you repeating your posts ad nauseam is o.k. apparently.

Is there a band out there that you're not so incredibly over?

"yeah, that band was fucking relevant like a second ago, but but fuck them."

i never said i didn't repeat myself. if anything i admitted to it.

the ex. i will never be over them.

a second? try years. move on.

they were good. i enjoyed them. i learned everything i could. i went forward. stagnation is death.

it's not a matter of relevence, they put every AoL copycat to shame. as does any originator. they were brilliant and i love them. i listen to them still from time to time. do i wish they were back? no. they did what they did in the window where it was appropriate, and i'm looking forward to being blown away and in love with someone else from the here and now. i'm tired of being tired, i'm tired of looking back and thinking so and so was/were great. music is a movement and to live it needs to move forward, not backward. take what you love, channel it, move forward, don't copycat, don't look back. you will die.

off my back, please?

I miss Archers Of Loaf.
