I gotta agree with Doc Awk' here- I thought Juno was great. I'm all for giving movies the benefit of the doubt, but I must admit that I was a bit skeptical about it.

Sure, there were little things that bothered me here or there--bits of extraneous dialogue, etc., but for a first-time screenplay? Spot-on. Great characters, great writing, and damn if that last scene with Michael Cera (awesome) didn't just burn a hole in my heart.

Loved the cast, too-- J.K. Simmons (unbelievable), Allison Janney, and especially Ellen Page. Not to mention Jason Bateman.

This Juno put the whammy on me.

the acting was fine but the script, ugh...so bad. cera was good and the girl was good too, but her lines were so painfully bad. so precious and precocious. the subtle anti-abortion theme annoyed me too.

I have no idea why people like this film, but then again, people seem to have liked crash.

this movie could've been okay if the dialogue was halfway decent, and they didn't try to rip off rushmore with the constant alterna-mtv soundtrack. save your bucks and go see no country for old men.

I'd like to point out that i have no fucking idea why anyone would say this movie is anti-abortion. Did it paint abortion clinics in a negative light? I don't think so (abortion clinic receptionists, maybe, but clinics?). The one blatantly pro-life character (the Asian protester girl) is portrayed in a satirical light.

So, what, just because she chooses to have the baby and give it up for adoption, the movie's not pro-choice? WTF, people.

If a character in a movie gets knocked up unexpectedly, considers abortion, and decides it's not for her, the movie is automatically anti-abortion. That's the stupidest thing i've heard today, and today i heard "Hilary Clinton wins New Hampshire."

I'm with the Doc on this, no way was this movie anti abortion. Like I said before it could have went down this road but chose to stay neutral.

This movie was pretty bad. I agree with everyone who has said things about the poor dialogue, the forced hipness, the indie-comedy cliche stuff.

I thought Ellen Page did a pretty good job with some pretty awkward dialogue. Also, she is cute. Before too long, I found myself tuning out the clever quips and just tuning into the cute-lead-actress factor. That's a big sign of a bad script.

I like Michael Cera. He was typecast in that way that he gets typecast, but I think that's kind of what I like anyway.

Too much twee. Way too much. Too many cringes, and not the intentional kind like you get from The Office.

Oh yeah, I don't think this movie was necessarily pro-life, politically speaking. It did entertain the idea of trying to get an abortion, and that alone keeps it from being on the staunch "abortion is morally wrong" platform. Still, easy co-opting material for pro-lifers, as would be the case for any movie in the "i'm an independent woman and i'm having my baby" vein (i.e. Waitress).

Kimya Dawson. My wife just informed me that one of her (Dawson's, not my wife's) songs on the soundtrack is about a guy we used to hang around with (and still do when he's in town), which is weird for me.

The movie looks good; I'm looking forward to seeing it. It looks leaps and bounds less annoying than Garden State, which actually wasn't that bad once you got past its message (whatever it was) and its Shins-fellating. I actually wouldn't have even thought to put the two movies into the same category.

Actually, The Death of Mr. Lazarescu is a pretty great movie.

EDIT: Wes Anderson has had a bad of an influence on current American "indie" films as Tarrantino did in the mid-90's.

I have not seen it but a fat born again Christian woman at work today was telling everyone how 'cute' this movie is and we all just have to see it.
