I'm still trying to digest this, but it just won't compute. If this sentence had been translated from Urdu or something...

It might alarm you even more to know I'm a wannabe drummer and from the same town as Bonham. I have never heard more than maybe three of their songs.

Although, I swear the squeaking kick-pedal in "Since I've Been Loving You" (which, for all of you who are new to the game, is really one of the best songs of all time) is significantly more noticeable than was the case with the cassette-version I owned as a youngster.

If I were radiohead, I would probably be really sad today. "Ha ha, they're always sad..." you say? hardy har har! I mean today they're extra-sad. I mean, how bummed would you be if you found out Plant was less than indifferent about your life's work? I'm trying to imagine how sad they must feel to have found out he said as much.

When I started my career in college radio (I was 19), I really thought times were exciting. I got a radio show to program however I wanted. I really felt like I was weilding Excalibur. I could take all of the "crazy" music I'd collected over the past few years and share it with the whole campus. Or, the part of it that was listening to the college radio station. From midnight to 2 a.m. On a Monday night. Sure, it was 2 people, but it was still exciting. I'm sharing my music with the world!

What music do I pick to share with the world every week? Mr. Bungle! Every week I had my mandatory "Block of Bungle", because I thought the world needed a little boat-rocking (I was 19!)

Then one night, I take a ride up to KC with some friends to see the Lawerence, KS leg of SnoCore 2000... System of a Down, Puya, Incubus, and taking the opening slot... MR. fuckin' BUNGLE!

After their set, who should I find hanging out in the back of the crowd watching the rest of the show than Mike Patton! Oh, happy day! I could approach him and tell him about all of the Mr. Bungle I play! He'll be so fuckin' psyched! He will think "random mr. bungle liking person, you play so much of us, you must be an OK guy! In fact, you're cool. Let's hi-five and be friends." I am certain this is what is about to happen.

I, completely intimidated with my brush with fame at the time, very nervously tell him about my adoration of his then "mind-blowing" and "ingenious" music (*19!). He seems cordial. I then boldly proclaim how proud I am to have a radio show that features a whole block of Bungle. EVERY. SINGLE. WEEK. Mr. Patton first responds with a look of confusion. Then I confirm what he thinks I just said was, in fact, true.

Mike Patton then proceeds to laugh at me.

At the time, it made me feel sad.

I imagine radiohead probably feels a lot sadder than that.

It is a sad day to be radiohead, indeed.

I can't imagine anything they would care less about. It certainly wouldn't bother me in the slightest.

At the end of the day, the dude didn't even know it was Radiohead. He heard some music he didn't like, he asked them to turn it off. It's just Robert Plant. Nearly anyone could have been the singer of LZ and they would be just as well regarded. He wrote some fucking silly lyrics, all things considered.
