Cheers for the suggestions. Im in the same band as Edd and have gone through a few, I really like the John Hannon recordings I've found so far, seems like the best bet. Also Dropout looks good too.

I can't find out anything about Hall Place, no website or myspace?

Toerag would be great but aren't they charging a shit load these days!?
I was under the impression that since elephant it would be cheaper to fly to Chicago and record at Electrical for a few days.

With the tape thing, its not only the sound but being able to take the tapes home after thats important to us, i already have a hard drive full of files from a mackie system lying around that'll never see the light of day.

just to name a few, the 3 first albums from Hood, Bilge Pump, Quack Quack, Herman Dune....
