I definitely wouldn't have had the stones to do most of the stuff I do now, for work and for play, if I had another kid in the house with me. I had to pretty much DIM from age 12 on, for better or for worse.
As an adult, I wonder what it might be like to have a sibling my age to bounce ideas off of - which is a role my mother plays right now.
I find that highly bizarre.

i'm an only child. artsy, taciturn, bookish, and quite social occasionally. autocratic and highly detail-oriented too. also, stay out of my room!

I was an only child until I was five and haven't gotten over these traits.

Not Crap
Maybe I had the advantage of living in a neighborhood with a lot of kids my age. But I've rarely seen - amongst people I know - relationships between siblings that I envy, or would aspire to.
Would've been cool to have a little bro/sis. But it's made me what I am - whatever that is -

CRAP.
It's always been odd to be around someone with tons of brothers and sisters, thinking to yourself "how can they cope?" - but thinking about it, I would've preferred to have some myself. Blame my mum for being old and dried up.
