Endorse these two as well. Lived next door to Windy City for a while and alternated between the fried shrimp basket and gyros. These two are roughly competitive.
Don't go to Budacki's cause it sort of sucks.

Greektown Gyros (on Halsted and Jackson, yellow awning) has the most cops in line. chances are, this is a good litmus test for quality of food, as pigs know their grubs.
kerble is right.

34Damn, this thread is making me hungry. I haven't been there in a while, but I always remember King's #2 Gyros in Jefferson Park as being really good.

Greektown Gyros, that was one of 'em that is down there that is good.
There was a big place and a little place. The little place was real dirty, but the food was good.

As much as it pains me to say it, cops are always a sign of good food. Usually they are eating for free so they are choosing where to eat based solely on the taste and quality of the food.

I lived really close for a few years, so we compared. Mr. Greek (the little dirty blue one) was not as good as Greektown. Greektown has a much larger menu, too. their battered and fried mushrooms are exceptional. there's another one that's a half block east on jackson that is not quite as good, either.
in the southwest suburbs, Doggie Diner in woddridge is great, too. my friend Billy owns it, and he will load you down with french fries to boot.
kerble is right.

Cool, call me if you get lost, but Oakland and Locust are pretty main streets...
