The ceramics are not staggered, and follow the general shape of the curvature of the neck. I've swapped out and played both pickups out of vintage RI strats from mexico, MIA standard strats and I had a MIA jaguar for a while, and I can say all those sound nearly identical, as well as they have a the same shape and stuff. I like those pickups a lot, and you can pick them up for 20 bucks, sometimes 40 for all 3 or so. I sold my MIM strat when I came across a 20 year old korean squier that played better than nearly any guitar I have ever held, for $130. I swapped out the electronics for MIA pickups, and I sincerely doubt there's an american strat that can hold it's own against this 20 year old $170 korean guitar.
That being said, I liked my MIM strat. It's kind of like a basic model honda.
korean guitars that old are awesome!! what year is yours?
