I've never heard a better record than "Spiderland". I recently started listening to Low, like them a lot, but they have nowhere near the same effect on me.
Low are excellent, but Slint are magic.
Either-Or: Low vs. Slint
32Low have a considerable number of good songs and I very much like Alan Sparhawk's voice, phrasing and words; but have they got any songs as good as "Washer" and "Good Morning Captain"?
I don't think any of Low's songs have the same feeling of release as at the climax of those two Slint compositions / performances.

33low, i've listened to them at least once a month for 12 years. there's something special and irreplaceable about them. and those harmonies... i can't tell you the last time i listened to spiderland.

well no, of course none of low's songs have that sense of release, part of the 'idea' of low's music is that it's slow and tense and beautiful. having a point of cathartic release kind of ruins the effect of that (as evidenced by the couple of songs of theirs which DO have big noisey dynamic shifts, which in most cases end up being weaker than their more restrained moments).
that's not to say that your reason for prefering slint is invalid, just that low will probably never give you that particular feeling.
