I am glad you brought up the pizza guy, I always give the pizza guy ten bucks, always. Always have.
I would like everyone who is reading this to automatically give the pizza guy 10 bucks tip every single time you order a pizza.

I have this grand idea, let me explain. It can work.

You know how things are now? Where the 'good' jobs are these office jobs where people don't do shit but yap and gossip and fuck around on the computer all day and take home 15 16 bucks an hour, maybe more?
And how real jobs, doing real work...hard fucking work, the work that makes the whole world keep operating, not just some company....those jobs tend to pay barely enough to survive on?
I have this plan to make pizza delivery man the most sought after, highly prized job there is.
If every person who ordered a pizza gave the driver no less than 10 dollars tip every single time, I figure a pizza delivery man could make 50 or 60 dollars an hour on a fairly busy night. 100 bucks an hour on a real crazy night.
I want those terrible, worthless office people begging for those jobs, and I want the people who are pizza delivery men now to hold onto them and only give them up to their children when they are too old to carry on themselves. This can go generations. The great pizza barrons of the early 2000's will be written about in history books of the future.
I wanna see the pizza man pull up in a real fucking nice car, dressed in a real slick suit, surrounded by pussy.
I want pizza delivery men to be envied across the land, I want rappers talking about what pimp ass motherfuckers pizza delivery men are in their stupid rap songs.
This can happen, we can do this. If we spread the word to everyone we know and they do the same, we can really change things this little bit.

Eventually they'd become a political force, and you know damn well that pizza delivery guys ain't gonna be pullin' no bullshit that don't need pullin' once they get some power. I'd trust a pizza delivery man in power a lot sooner than some fucking spoiled rich kid, which is all we have now.

So who's with me? Order a pizza right now and let's start this.

Oh man, thanks for this post. This is a platform I can get behind.

oh man.. try being a janitor.. I have learned so much about life. When given the chance to be anonymous, people are disgusting. But honestly what you say is probably a good approach to achieving world peace. It's pretty simple.

I, too, have been a janitor. Two words, and I know I'm speaking to the core of your being here: wall boogers.

I used to be one of those people who just gave the pizza guy a buck and change. My shame is legion. Finally I wised up and started tipping like they were a waiter, min. 20%. While I probably won't be giving them 10 bucks on a 15 dollar bill, I do encourage all to tip them a little better than if you are seated at a table. My friends dad had to deliver pizzas at 60 for a couple of years - it sucks.

The coffee tip jar - I think that's sort of bullshit. I'm assuming these folks are making real wages not food service wages. But all I ever get is straight coffee - I can't remember the last time ordered anything more complicated than espresso. And for the espresso, I throw in a little extra. This sounds old man cranky, but I worked for a long time between $5-10/hr and never expected a tip. Disabuse me!

here serving staff are paid above minimum wage, plus tips. i tip as much as i can when the food is good and the server pleasant, but usually "what i can" is no more than a few bucks. i am always friendly with the serving staff, polite and respectful, and if they make an honest mistake or are having a bad day i am entirely patient and understanding.

i have never worked a job where i received tips, but i have worked plenty of downright shitty jobs. maybe this is why i am a little callous to the code. if i know a person is making 10 plus an hour, my extra five on top of that to them seems pretty generous, especially taking into consideration i myself am making barely 10 an hour, without the added perk of tips. if the person is a dick, or fucks up without caring/apologizing, they get nothing. sorry, pal, you're in a position where your attitude and performance greatly determine your wage, if you can't be bothered to act like it, i can't be bothered to compensate you.

in bars i am admittedly more stingy. If i am paying 4.95 a beer, i'm paying with a five. that sucks for the bar staff, but if they treat me like a proper patron i will often leave them the big coin (dollar and two dollar coins) that i have accumulated at the end of the night. if i get shit for tipping a nickel on the first few drinks, they get nothing and i drink elsewhere.

how do you guys feel about tipping cab drivers? here taxis are a maximum rip off, but its not the driver's fault. like the pizza guy who knocks on my door at 3 in the morning, the cabbie bringing my drunk ass home has a special place in my heart and whenever i find myself falling on their services i like to ensure a tip of at least half whatever the bill/fare was.

Bartenders in the U.S. make a living on tips and generally get paid shit by the house. Do they get paid a higher regulated wage in Canada or do they also live on tips?

i tip when i can, and when i can i tip as well as i can.

when i can't, sorry. i try to not go places where i'd have to tip when i have no money.

one thing i never got is people tipping coworkers. like when i worked at a bar, people on the clock would tip the bartender.

plus when all the bartender's friends and whatnot hang out, and they tip him, wtf? i would not accept my friend or roommates fucking tips and doing so seems a total asshat move.
buy my guitar. now with pictures!

i tipped my friend who served me an americana the other night. it was just a dollar, and i dropped it in the little "karma" dish next to the register, trying to be discreet, but she caught me and the whole thing was awkward and terrible.
