I am somewhat surprised by my continued affection for "Aserejé" by Las Ketchup.

One of the linked videos for this song is Kaoma's "Lambada" which is a dead ringer for Sun City Girls' "The Shining Path", something that always bugged the shit out of me (the fact that it seems that Kaoma ripped them off, that is)

I came home from school one day to find my dad rocking out to a stone temple pilots album, really really loudly... That was the first and only time I've seen him show any interest in music... it was weird.

My current (soon to be ex- cos he's moving in with his girlfriend) roommate is a semi-well-known "noise" musician. Records under the name "Climax Denial." It's good stuff.

ha. i saw the Climax Denial dude get literally thrown off the stage at The Empty Bottle by the guys in Bloody Minded whom were opening for Wolf Eyes. no one caught him or helped break his fall, he hit the ground like a ton of fucking bricks...he got up like nothing happened.

My dad. Not a guy who spends that much time thinking about music. Really into Dylan, the Beatles and, for a while at least, Paul Simon.

But when I was 13, he started getting into Nirvana. And when I was 16, he started getting into Big Black and Sonic Youth.

When I was 18, we were sitting around one day with nothing to do, and Sonic Youth happened to be playing in Detroit that night. The "Thousand Leaves" tour, we went together, saw the Ex open up and blow SY off the stage, and left in high spirits.

Now, he's even into the Ex.
