Hi Short Boss,

You probably know that next Friday is my birthday yet I'll be working from home that day. In case you were planning it for another day, I'd like to ask that you not throw a party the way it's usually done and have everyone gather in the conference room to sing.

We used to be required to bring our own treats to share for our own birthdays and the birthday person would send an EMail and invite everyone to partake in whatever was provided. I'd like to do that.

Birthdays at work, no matter how good one's intentions are, are invariably a bit stupid.

Birthday drinks after work and having embarrassing stories to tell in the office the next day, however, are NOT CRAP.
