Not a song per se, but there is the Robert Penn Warren poem 'Encounter With Old Nigger on the Side of the Road'.
It is a beautiful peom, and I'm not even really much on poetry so to speak.
Warren, however, I'm sure, was coming from the same place Faulkner was.

"one in a million" is one of my favorite gnr songs - it captures that scared-smalltowner-tough-rocker-going-to-the-big-city vibe way better than "welcome to the jungle" does. always seemed more like a vulnerable kid trying to sound tough to himself more than anything else.
big fan of "romeo's distress" as well, though i don't know what the hell rozz (rozz 4 ever! fukk valor!) was singing about...
