Musicals suck.
Which exceptions?
This is one of the few times I've disagreed with your musical taste, so I'd like to see what makes it crap for you.
I actually have a different take on them than Tom.
I think some of the music in musicals is not so bad, but musicals themselves are ridiculous.
Leonard Bernstein wrote some very good music. Rodgers and Hammerstein wrote some good music. George Gershwin wrote a shitload of good music. Kurt Weill wrote a disturbing amount of great music.
Outside of the musicals of which they were part, I can enjoy or at least appreciate this music.
Musicals themselves are almost always belabored, overworked, contrived. They seem like a pointless overlay to me, as a delivery device for music.
Most people I know who enjoy musicals seem to get off on the hideous contrivances of them. I just get a headache, pretty much 100% of the time.

I like the music in musicals (The Sound Of Music). Since the music would not have existed without the musical, musical = not crap & that's the only musical that I have ever seen. Too many musical mentions

Nah, that's pretty much my take on it too. Thanks for making my point better than I did.
A lot of the music isn't very good, but not so much of it that I would give a universal crap.
Most of the story lines are bad, but enough are good.
Put the two together though and I think the sum is less than the parts.

Not crap.
Anything Goes
Singin' in the Rain
An American in Paris
Cabaret
West Side Story
Into the Woods
Sweeney Todd
Fiddler on the Roof
The Singing Detective
And you know what? Fuck it: Sound of Music, too.

Does Dancer in the Dark count? That's NOT CRAP. And the South Park musical is pretty great, if I remember correctly.

Would've been better without the musical numbers.
