I'd recommend a day trip to Chattanooga if you're already in Nashville or Knoxville. Nice walkable downtown with art museums and sculpture gardens, glass bridges, river walk, etc. Rock City is kitschy and touristy but still worth seeing once. Very underrated city.

I've driven Chicago - NOLA roundtrip twice in the past 9 months. Both times I stopped in Memphis in each direction (four separate stays), seeing how there is fuck-all else city-wise in that long stretch. You could do worse than pigging out on Gus's, Payne's, Central and others for a three-day weekend. Stax has a great museum, Isaac Hayes' pimped-out, gold-plated Caddy is there on a rotating base. I had an interesting conversation with an off-duty Memphis cop at Earnestine & Hazel's, comparing Chicago and Memphis. The pig was cool!

Hello, we ll be in Nashville for the weekend of The Weed Day to catch the Sunn O))) show at the Caverns outside of town. It looks like The Family Wash closed. Where are some great places to see music these days? Particularly if I have an interest in pedal steel guitar? Also, are there certain neighborhoods that are cool and worth staying in to walk around and enjoy the city? I ve never been, so I m not sure about traffic, sprawl, etc.

Five Points (the neighbourhood) is pretty cool. Fanny's House of Music is there and it is one of the best guitar shops around. Plus you can get a dog from I Dream of Weinie next door. Win!

Bump: Are there any decent neighborhoods just outside of Nashville? Looking for some cheaper AirBnB options.

Juliet, Hermitage, or Hendersonville. I'd avoid Goodlettsville, Antioch, and anything around the airport. Everything to the south (Brentwood, Franklin, Belle Meade) is expensive boring suburb soccer-mom stuff.
