tmidgett wrote:there were probably close to a dozen all-time great albums in 1969, and many many fewer than that in 1982. then again, there were more great albums in 1968 than in 1981, as well. but the discrepancy between 1969 and the years that surrounded it was not as great as the same discrepancy regarding 1982.

i was born in 82. coincidence? no.

hmmm the replacements released nothing in '82, but stuff in '81,'83,'84,'85

that seals the deal.

mayhaps it's shitty i've posted thrice in this thread without naming a hard and fast numero uno, but - by way of a bump, if nothing else - i wanna mention that the brokaw "i was born, but" is making a strong eleventh-hour run for my vote. i'm locked in my sad office trying to meet an MA deadline, you see, and such writing binges mean "instrumental only" for my ears. brokaw's album is numbing the pain for sure, and provides ample fanfare for my tiny moments of glory. a similar scenario resulted in black dice's rocketing to the top of my 2002 list, i'll have you interested parties know...

also, nobody's mentioned the new thalia zedek in their list of year's best.... that's definitely top 10, maybe higher. 'good thing we've got another month to decide, eh?

I guess it would be a tie for me between the Blonde Redhead "Misery is a Butterfly" album or maybe Xiu Xiu's "Fabulous Muscles."

Runner ups Fennesz "Venice" or perhaps the new Isis

as for 82 my favorites were either the theme from Pinwheel or some Weird Al Yankovic record. I'm sure in 69 my parents were either real up on Zeppelin or the Who.
