Half-way through day 2....snapped one of the two remaining loosies I had and put it in the garbage. After eating lunch, smoked the other after about three attempts NOT to.Currently feel like crap (physically), going through bouts of temptation to go buy a pack. Relieving that with push-ups.PM'd Kate for the Carr book. (anyone else have the PDF?)

Hey dude, sorry about that - I don't have the login to the old username so no pm's. PM me (to this account, kate rev) your email address and I will send it!ETA: Just remembered that when I was unpacking after moving, I found a fresh pack of cigarettes, unopened, in a purse. Directly in the trash with a chuckle. It is good!

I've accepted that I'll probably be quitting life before I successfully quit smoking. Sad.

5 years smoke-free today. Never thought I would make it past 3 months. 5 years ago, if I ran more than 10 feet I'd be doubled over in a coughing fit and have to rest before doing anything else. Tomorrow I'll run 5 miles.

BobbyPeru wrote:I've accepted that I'll probably be quitting life before I successfully quit smoking. Sad.That doesn't mean you can't try or keep trying. It might stick one time, might not. But at least you can say you tired. And look, you might be one of the blessed who can smoke consequence free, but chances are, say hi to your coffin nails. Trust me, it's an ugly way to go. But what makes it even more ugly is to look back and see regret staring you down over a habit that comes with the most marginal buzz ever. Fuck, if you're gunna go down, get off. Trying and failing will at least tell you that came up against something bigger than you and lost despite your best efforts. There's dignity in that. There is none if you don't try because you have no idea whether or not you could - the only thing you'll know for sure is that you'll have beaten yourself. A true DIY effort! So keep trying, earnestly - every 3 months, or 6 months. Or whatever nth unit of time. You owe that much to yourself and it's not much to ask of yourself either. Hey, u might get lucky one of those times.& at the very least keep grinning like an undertaker. Stay sick! Best of luck, Martha Splatterhead phpBB [media]

Congrats. Been close to 10 years for me. Sadly, I can't really run anymore. Can't really walk for great distances either. Swimming but only if I use my upper body. Sucks I quit smoking then get robbed of any fun cardio. Shadow boxing but it's not the same. I miss running. We're bipeds, we're meant to move forward.

I only ever feel the need when very stressed, which is often lately. Never smoked regularly. Never got fully hooked, but I've danced with the devil. I realized that I don't feel the need for nicotine. For me, it's a self-soothing tool. Whenever I feel I need it, it's really the ritual of getting one, holding it, lighting it, having the pack. I never really enjoy it. But, I am able to be conscious of this and direct myself to other things like almost constant masturbation.

I'm off 'em again. Doesn't matter how long I've been off 'em, it only maters that I am. I didn't read the Carr book. Would have been my 3rd or 4th time. It was incredibly helpful in the past, but I didn't feel like I needed to read it again. I got the gist of it, I just wasn't committing. There were 2 driving factors that made me decide it was time:1. Vanity. I cannot stand the smell of cigarettes and the taste of my foul cigarette breath. 2. WHAT A FUCKING TIME SUCK JESUS CHRIST. I typically plan to spend most of my days off working on music, and I do. If I come up with a "great" idea, I immediately feel the need to smoke to celebrate. Can't figure out that next chord change? Have a puff. Three bad takes in row? SMOKE ABOUT IT. Ridiculous. I have quit numerous times using various methods over the past 8 years. I don't know why but this time it feels like it's going to stick.
