I just thought of one I'm guilty of. Weary instead of wary. I've said it a few times and realised right away but I hear other people say it too.

Ha ha. Yeah that was me. I actually typed it as a joke because i'd heard someone say it the day before. I presumed they were meant to be saying "i resent that remark". Made me chuckle. I guess it made you chuckle too? Or crack a wee smile at least.

Is "all the sudden" a malapropism? Or is it interchangeable with the seemigly-more-sensible "all of a sudden?" My friends and I have had heated arguments over this.

matt, one tip i have for cleaner speech/writing is to avoid '-ized' in general, as it is rarely necessary. you can just say 'it was becoming more bureaucratic.' or say 'even more' if you want to intensificatize the becoming.

i offer this suggestion only b/c you mentioned it. i wouldn't think twice about that usage otherwise. or once, for that matter.

I noticed everyone says "absolutely" all the time now, too. I'm sick of that word.

This is the one that makes me want to hurt people.

When I see someone put "all of the sudden" instead of "all of a sudden," I just immediately assume that they fuck their siblings and drink from puddles.

I think one of the reasons people tend to use these words is that they are fun to say....They all seem to roll off the toungue with ease which is what makes them so...sayable(!)

Malapropisms don't really bother me so much...they can be really funny! I think that maybe this is where alot of slang comes from. People enjoy the uddering(?) of a word without a care as to what the word actually means. It just sounds nice...

I am terrible at spelling. I sometimes think I have a weird case of dyslexia(?)...where I spell the same words wrong over and over again...
Spell check is a wonderful invention...

I was surprised to learn that saying (example) "this is nonsense" is actually wrong. It's supposed to be "this is a nonsense".

But i think i may have only heard the correct usage once or maybe twice at a push. So where does this lie in terms of clever dicks getting it wrong, in relation to how annoying the correct usage is / how annoying people's use of incorrect usage is in general?

Okay so that sentence is really poor but i'm not particularly clever.
