i obviously voted not crap, i believe this poll is un-necessary (but what do i know, its my second post on this forum) but i believe the crap should be as low as possible.

32Not Crap...not even 3 way tie for last or Tour Spiel...their weakest entries ever.
So not crap for being what they were...weird, non-punk(?) punk rock.
Like what Mike Watt said about titling "Double Nickles On The Dime." Something about how the hit at the time was Sammy Hagar's "I Can't Drive 55." He said they decided well, we ARE going to drive 55, but just in a different direction...sideways.
so beautiful...this music, she excite me!
Salut Minutemen!

WE JAM ECONO: THE STORY OF THE MINUTEMEN
2005, Tim Irwin, USA, 90 min.
With the untimely death of D. Boon in 1985, the independent music world lost one of its strongest, most unflinching voices. With his band the Minutemen, Boon helped shape the Southern California postpunk scene that emerged in the early ‘80s, forging an original, heady sound with fragments of political rage, vanguard/populist musical ingredients, and an inspiring DIY attitude. This, the only documentary about the legendary band, is guided by Minutemen bassist Mike Watt. Providing a good foundation for the claim that the Minutemen were the greatest rock band of all time, it features rare live footage and interviews with Richard Hell, Fugazi, Black Flag, Sonic Youth, Flea and many others. Digi Beta video. (JD)

36i saw it a few weeks ago. it was great. back to the "last time you cried" thread, I started to choke up when Watt talked about D. dying. I've read the story in more detail by him before, how he was driving down a street in Pedro and he had a chill run down his spine, real creepy feeling. He later found out that was right at the time that Boon had been in the wreck.

37If we agree that Bedhead were THE band of the 90's, I think we can also agree that the Minutemen were THE band of the 80's.

40I abstain. I have no idea if they're crap or not. My roommate of the time was obsessed with them and the Fall and played both constantly, at a time when I was more into the Replacements and the Soft Boys/Robyn Hitchcock. He seemed to feel a strong personal connection and was very upset when D. Boon died. We saw them once, in 1985. Mike Watt seems like a cool guy and all but I could somehow never quite get them. I tried listening to "Double Nickels on the Dime" nonstop for a few weeks a couple years ago and realized that I could not in all honesty say that it was rocking me as I require Not Crap to do, but I am not going to dismiss them either. I probably have no soul. Oh well.
