Compared to their later output, yes. IN MY HUMBLE OPINION.

In King Crimson top trumps, Red is the only card with a riff factor of 10.

Not Crap. I'll also be a Belew defender. Althought the three run albums of LTIA, SABB and red are the best. I do like Discipline very much and have grown to appreciate Belew's input a lot more after seeing tem on various live DVDs and actually seing Belew in a solo context. I certainly don't think Belew's lyrics are worse than Sinfield's or Palmer-James. At least Belew bought a sense of humour to the band which was very absent before. I like the contrast of Belew's wayward sounding guitar with Fripp's precision.
Anyway, I saw Belew in concert a few months ago in Canberra and there were about 50 people there. He was nothing less than gracious and his back up band were stunningly good. He came out afterwards and was quite chatty with the crowd. His latest 3 run of solo albums (Side 1, Side 2 and Side 3) are very good.
I don't like much pre-Larks Tounge except for ITCOTCK. The great Deceiver is skullfuckingly good.
Since Bruford's departure I'm less interested coz I think it is Pat M who is the tool and is far too limited a percussionist; his input drags the others back imo. I really like Trey Gunn's efforts though.

people fly people flee
people clam and say it wasn't me
people fish people beef
people arm to teeth
yes, you've got people on the tube
walking on the moon
people at the bottom of the sea
people in tombs
people in igloos
even a tribe of pygmies
people are the main spring
turning the world around
people, they're the main spring
spinning this world upside down
people sun people toast
people tire shile other people smoke
people bowl people rock
people pay to see two people box
watch me face me
dress me baby me
phone me wire me
house me bug me fire me
people are the main spring
spinning the world around
people, they're the main spring
turning this world inside out
I rest my case----crap!

Not as interesting to me as Yes, or Henry Cow but certainly a good distance from CRAP.
NOT CRAP.

I gotta say, some of the Trilogy era stuff is amazing. Some of it is also total
J.O. Industry, perfomed live, is pretty fucking amazing. Discipline also.
And Robert should be sat on a remote operated wheel chair. Prolly the only
way to animate the guy.
Not Crap.

King Crimson is one of a very small handful of desert island bands for me. There are scant few groups that constantly reinvented themselves and did it WELL.
There is almost always a Crimson record in my recently played crate...
Oh and they helped guide Don Caballero....

When I was younger, my father said I had to listen to 21st Century Schizoid Man. I heard it and was blown away. The open and close of that song is phenomenal. I had a hard time believing that it was so old.
Heard Moonchild in Buffalo '66. Also very good.
