It's funny seeing that video having (as a teenager) spent many happy(?) bedroom hours trying to play those songs. He actually can't play their songs any better than a standard, spotty 16 year-old. When you listen to the guitar parts played on their own, you really start to appreciate how important the production on those records must have been...unless maybe Hetfield really was a far better player.
Well, James did write all of the riffs and, and as far as I know, the rhythm guitar on those albums is all him. Kirk recorded only his leads.
Also watch the performances from when James was injured and not playing guitar, and note how much worse they sound.

33saying good things about metallica feels somewhat weird, but heidfeld was a hell of a player back then. he wrote some amazing riffs and could play them without even trying hard live (he probably still can, i don't know).

Big shocker. I guess I won $1.00 on my 1-to-500 bet of $500 with The Realist on what you watched on television last night. I'm off to collect a third of tomorrow morning's Americano money (post-tip, of course).

So Jack's doesn't charge you extra for 3 packs of Splenda, a Sweet and Low, 2 Equals and a pack of Sugar?

Yeah, that's a deleted scene on the SKOM dvd. I'm not sure how he's managing to fuck up something so easy.
It reminds me of a part in the Chuck Berry documentary Hail! Hail! Rock 'n' Roll, where Keith Richards is jamming with Chuck and his band. There's this part that's just a simple half-step bend, starting up and bending down three times, and Keith just can't get it right. You can see Chuck growing more and more impatient with Keith to get the song down already cause there's bitches waiting to get peed on.

38they ruled the 80's. since then, they're good as a comedy act if you're into schadenfreude.
first four albums (yeah, even Kill Em All) are excellent works of art.
since then... it's more sad than funny, to me. but it's not been good for what's coming up on 20 years.
they can suck shit for another 30 years and it'll never be able to drag down the greatness of their first 7 years.
NOT CRAP

40Well, the Primus horribleness is just par for the course.
Seeing Metallica now is like seeing a girl that used to be pretty turned fat and ugly. Hammett's solo is twenty times uglier than that skin disease thread we had a while ago. It's stupendous. It's the stuff that nightmares are made off. And WTF's with that Trujillo character, crouching over the stage like he's Atilla the Hun in some bad spaghetti western? Way way way worse.
