If it's latex, pretty much any paint stripper should take that off. CitrusStrip works if you want something less harsh, but usually requires more than one application. I've used Aircraft Remover (you know, for removing aircraft) and it works way faster, but is many times harsher. That stuff will remove 2-part epoxy-based paints if you use it right.Use a plastic scraper to remove the stripper and finish. A metal scraper will leave gouges if you're not careful.

Is there a paint strpper that would make this easier or is it just a matter of sanding it all off? Also, since mahogany is so porous, I'm afraid that I'll sand through the mahogany ply into the underlying poplar to get all the green paint off. I'd wager dontfeartheringo would have some opinions on the best way to do this as he's pretty much restored everything drum. I doubt he checks this particular thread much though.

Hi Woodsies,Say, I need a little advice. I scored a 1959 Slingerland kit for cheap because some knucklehead stripped it and painted the shells with green house paint. Said knucklehead also jammed a hideous pearl tom mount in it so I'll be patching and concealing that somehow. I'll probably flip the bass drum upside down so the repaired mount holes are on the bottom.I sanded away some of the green paint to reveal this gorgeous mahogany underneath. I'd like to remove all the paint, and stain and finish the shells. elisha wiesner wrote:I've stripped Mahogany acoustic guitars with ZipStrip and it works great. Gets the paint out of the pores etc... It's nasty stuff so wear a mask or do it outside. Or both. When you go to refinish it, a good grain filler will make all the difference. I use shellac but it takes a long time. There are plenty of other products that will certainly get the job done. Thanks for the tip! I stumbled upon this staining/finishing demonstration and he says the same thing about using grain filler. https://www.woodworkerssource.com/blog/ ... -projects/He shows examples and the difference is incredible. If I can get this paint off and the wood looks good, I plan on using this video as a guide.

I want to make a guitar out of it but can't seem to find any that I like.Boulter in Medford claims to stock curly and birdseye:http://www.boulterplywood.com/HardwoodLumber\_4.htmAssume you ideally want to resaw from rough dimension, so S3S prob not exactly what you want. Might be worth a call to them at least, as their suppliers might be able to get rough sawn.
