Could you tell me about IPOD, for how long does the battery work??? It is written in manual, that it`s 18 hours, but the manuals always say strange things

The my iPod gets almost 1/3 of manual says. This, she happens only on the good days. Is usually like 5 hours.

Battery life will depend on the encoding format / bit rate and therefore how often it needs to read from the disc and update the cache. I can get ca 12+ hrs with 320 kbps MP3 but AIFFs really chew through the power. I'm currently encoding using Apple Lossless which seems to give variable bit rate depending on the source material.

As for headphones, I bought some Shure e3C, but I'm not fully convinced. Overall the sound seems okay and are definitely worth the fiddle if you travel by noisy public transport, but I find them quite hard to fit and have to use the disposable buds (which cost to replace).

Anyone been able to compare the Shure E3s with the E4s?

A related question: Does anyone know of any headphones that are serviceable for wearing during prolonged runs?

The iPod ones are shit for all purposes. I've got some sort of higher end Sony earbuds, that are fine for just listening to an mp3 player, but still clog up with sweat. I'm not so much concerned about sound quality for these as much as I am durablity--not having to tap out sweat, keep poking them back in, cutting into the back of my ear, etc.

Any ideas?

Yes, my wife has the E3s and I have E4s. The E4s sound better to me, but the E3s are still damn good.

I find the ER-6s incredibly painful to wear. The Shures are far more comfortable. Your mileage may vary.

Both make my ears go wax crazy. I could sculpt the shit that hangs on to any earbud headphone I use.

Thanks to a good friend on the inside (not Chimp or Spoot or MattE - someone not on this board), I have a pair of E5's and they rule. The E3's are quite nice too. Haven't tried the E4's yet.

The E5's have dual drivers in em, but they are considerably more money - like $399.

Thanks for the tips. I think I'm going to go for the E4s. I kind of wonder if the ported design will reduce the isolation some, but I bet I'll be able to live with it.

For running, get some that hook over the ear. You might sacrifice some sound quality, but it's good to be able to hear honking horns and squealing tires. Also, they will stay put.

I use the Shures because I can't afford the etymotics. My fitted ear plugs I use for music accept the Shures. Nice.
The Sony in-ears are great for the money and very lightweight.

Mainly I use a pair of full size Grados with a step down adapter if I'm not in transit.

I think everyone agrees that the white iPod earphones suck. They are just the get you started and I guess they work for that. They fall out of my ears, so I can't use them at all.
