kaleb wrote:amazing music, the Spoils are covering a song by the pioneers of the form, KODO:phpBB [media]KODO are the most well-known, they're a kind of monastic group that spends half the year practicing on their own island compound and then spends the other half touring the world. But taiko is very widespread across Japan, most cities and towns have quasi-official groups of varying levels of professionalism that perform at local festivals. I joined two groups when I was there, one in the nearest city that practiced and did some pretty major shows on the old Tsuyama castle grounds, and the other a much more casual affair that was half an excuse for friends to hang out and drink and be loud, but we did perform at some municipal events.Oh my god, that's awesome. So, there's a collection of soda cans outside my bedroom window, probably put there by my brother because he's a slob, but when it rains, the drops fall off the roof and play them in patterns that vary by flow rate. It sounds precisely like this.

Every now and then I remember to listen this one from Pekos/Yoro Diallo from Mali. I think somehow Drag City put out this record from a found cassette or something, supposedly recorded in the 80s. Anyway, one of my favorite records ever. phpBB [media]
