Somehow gone this long without seeing Sorcerer. Just did. One of the best movies I've ever seen. Totally thrilled by it.

rewatched Face/Off recently with a group of friends and boy oh boy was it spectacular. I remember thinking it was pretty meh when it came out. We laughed so hard. It's so over the top in every possible way. At the time I didn't think it was on purpose. In retrospect, I believe much of it may have been satire. Recommended.
The same group also watched South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut last night. I'd say this one had the reverse impact on me. I saw it in the theater back in 99 and laughed so hard I cried. Don't get me wrong, I still laughed at this repeat watching, but most were chuckles.
Next group movie night we are going to check out Killer Sofa, which the trailer looks hysterical. We might double feature it with Death Bed.

AlphaGo (documentary, 2017): A small British Artificial Intelligence company programs a computer to play Go, a board game with near-astronomical variations that is thousands of years old. They take their creation to South Korea to compete against the world champion Go player, with unexpectedly moving results.

similar situation for me a few weeks ago. saw Beavis and Butthead Do America for the first time since it came out. when it came out i thought it was a true disappointment. this time i was dying from laughter.
the show is brilliant in that as a 16 year old kid i was laughing w/ Beavis and Butthead and now as a 40 year old i'm laughing at them and see my teenage nephews in them.

I was hoping for more off-kilter weirdness from Killer Sofa based on the concept alone, but it turned out to be a rather ho-hum movie. It is undercooked, innert and overlong. Death Bed, on the other hand, is the kind of movie you want when you go looking for those kind of movies. If you get on its wavelength, it's a strange and moody oddball of a movie in which its incompetence adds to the charm. It's like if Andy Milligan made a Jean Rollin film.

Thief (1981) - Michael Mann thriller. Tangerine Dream soundtrack. Completely of it's time but a real looker, and not afraid to hold its breath. Enjoyed it.

I watched this last night, a documentary that follows around Musa Hadid, the mayor of Ramallah. Interesting window into an aspect of life in occupied Palestine, and it somehow manages to be funny amidst all of the bullshit that they have to endure.

Watched Pig today, and really enjoyed it. Nicolas Cage in the best role he's had in quite some time. A couple of scenes and moments really got to me. They filmed a couple of scenes in the funeral home and cemetery where I work (dressed us up like a nursing home and, well, a mausoleum), so that was neat. Highly recommended.
