I actually feel pretty guilty.

Me deciding to follow the White Sox has coincided with their worst season in living memory.

Gramsci!

Welcome to baseball. It's exciting to witness someone getting into it. I wish I had baseball buddies here in Berlin, but none of my friends follow the MLB.

You can follow more than one team, or take a year off and try the Sox again next year, if you're just getting into it. I would suggest the Brewers if you are looking for a scrappy, resourceful small-market team that has consistently been in the running over the past years, with decent to great (even legendary) announcers. Did you get a full MLB TV subscription for the year?

These breakdowns by Jomboy Media are an entertaining way to learn about some aspects of the game:

Hey. Good channel, thanks.

After diving in I really get the expression “inside baseball” now.

I’m a bit of a stickler for picking a team and hanging in there. That was somewhat easier in New Zealand and then London where my local rugby and soccer teams respectively are great. I’ll stick with the Sox good and bad.

Unfortunately all the live games are at midnight here so I’m stuck with after and highlights.

Can someone explain to me why the Sox are so goddam terrible… I mean shockingly bad.

No but Walter malling could.

I just came back from Tokyo where I saw a Giants game. It was easily the highlight of my year. The entire upper deck was sold out. They had cheerleaders and marching bands and 5 mascots. An entire section for the visitors, like a college football game. They stood the entire time their team was at bat. MLB seems mundane by comparison. If you get a chance, go!

There’s a Mets vs Phillies game in London in a week. Can’t go unfortunately and going to a game in the UK just feels wrong.

My most likely first game will be a Yankees or Sox game during a US trip in 2025/26…

Astros fan here. Please don't throw anything at me. They're having a rough season. Blew a lead against Seattle last night in the 8th. That's been the story all season. I was not a baseball fan until I met my wife in the 90's. She grew up down the street from the Astrodome and went to games all the time since she was a kid. When we started going out, she started taking me to games in the Dome. Pretty soon I was hooked. Over 25 years later I still don't possess a fraction of her knowledge of the game. I sometimes think she could manage a team. It's been great to watch them go on a tear for the past 7 years or so. Hope they can turn it around. They got Jose Abreu from the White Sox last year, but he's struggled almost the whole time. He just returned from Florida this week where he went willingly to work on his hitting. Fingers crossed.

I’ve been reading up on Reinsdorf… I assume the entire fan base hate the guy.

My little dude here latched onto them over the past years as his favorite team and I am happy to tell him they're set to hit .500 and are more than in it from here on out. Jettisoned Abreu and not going to trade Bregman anymore either, I would have to imagine.
