A couple guys are trying to do the opposite of this - copyright every possible melody and release them into the public domain.

I heard about that and I think it's hilarious. There's that internet library that contains every possible combination of a random page of text, too. For similar reasons?

VR live performances are getting... interesting:

Tech still needs to improve, but combining the social/immersive aspects of something like VRChat with MelodyVR is technically possible. Currently experimenting with OBS and it's reasonably easy to set up a live video feed into a Unity-built VRChat environment, but ideally would like something like stereoscopic video filmed against a green screen 'projected' onto a stage in a virtual venue... Lots of potential for interactivity and immersive, reactive visuals, surround audio, online AV installations, etc...

Hard to imagine it's going to be anything other than a niche technology for another decade or so, but the potential is exciting, even if the reality is still janky and aesthetically jarring.

I would certainly hope that distance between listening and creating will decrease, so that playing music is more inviting, less intimidating. Lots more dance, song and theatre for children, to help them be comfortable in their bodies and their voices.

And the end of copyright, of course.

The world will cease to exist as we know it by 2049. By this time anyone with a crate of AA batteries, a korg Poly800, a Zoom R8 , an all aluminum EGC, will be able to corner the post apocalyptic market. This whole setup will run off the AA's. If someone has a vehicle still, w 12V operation , it can be run through a vehicles stereo. This is where music is going.

I'm going to sign AI to an exploitative contract now, while it is young and vulnerable and hungry for success. Following the rock star algorithm, it will be strung out on skid row in about 5 years. You can thank me later.

There are lots of young folks here in Austin making noise with guitars. I work with a 21 year old guy who is crazy about Fugazi. I had a conversation about Pylon with a gal who was in her early 20s and said it was her favorite band. The future of music will draw from the past and will add its own flourishes.

If you’re not getting out and going to shows where young people go, then it’s easy to think that the future is only AI-driven cicada beats. As for popular music- who gives a shit?

I think Taylor Swift's brain will tour floating in formaldehyde, piloting a gyrating mech for her mutated, screaming fans.

Hey, birds already make music... if you had a voice like a songbird you ain't need no instrument. We get tui in my garden... they have been known to mimic human speech but I've not heard any do that - I do hear cellphone ringtones in some of their jams.
