I used to love Styx when I was a kid. Grand Illusion, Pieces of Eight, Paradise, even Kilroy. Then punk came along and that was it for me with Styx, U2, Rush for a bit. I feel like since the early aughts or so Rush has become pretty acceptable for old punks to admit to liking, but poor old Styx is still out of fashion.

I was gonna write a whole thing about DeYoung being too syrupy and tin pan alley for Styx to get respect as a rockin band, but he kind of ruled, and why does Styx need to be anything than what they were? Anyway I'm totally putting on Caught in the Act now, thanks!

Who's out there telling people not to listen to the Specials? It's a sick, sad world.

Anyway I'll cop to liking Foreigner and Steve Miller, though as a middle-aged white dude that's probably closer to what I'm "supposed to be listening to." Also "Take It On The Run" by REO Speedwagon is a jam and a half

JA was good. They were of a time and place but were a good band.

While combing through boxes in my basement looking for Scratch Acid I noticed I have a trove of obscure 90s goth/ ethereal CDs: Siddal, Strange Boutique, An April March [sic], Changelings, Sunshine Blind etc.

Also I realized I might prefer Scratch Acid to TJL.

These two things might be related but I’m not ready to get into that yet.

I think the Eagles are just fine. I have fond memories of waking up to the smell of coffee and the sound of my brother listening to their records.

Records we bought for like a dollar when nobody wanted vinyl and you could still pick up records at CD Exchange for next to nothing. Then hipsters ruined everything. As always.

There are three specific albums of the 90's that I feel I get the side eye from most of my friends about when I say that I like them. No shame on my end, but those albums are:

Gin Blossoms New Miserable Experience
Oasis Definitely Maybe
Elastica Elastica

Additionally, that Elastica album has a really great bass sound. Listen to "S.O.F.T."

The Carpenters, Chris Isaak (or am I allowed to like them? Don't really know the rules).
