I picked up a Warm Audio Passive DI box this weekend and tried a couple things out with it. I like blending it with the Amp, and I think that it helps give the bass the oomf it was missing. Sometimes, I feel like a DI can sound pretty flat with little dynamics, but going through the Tascam Model 12 strait, or through one of the Art Pro tube preamps, the P Bass sounded like it's true bad ass self.
I also like it with the Dark Glass Microtubes preamp pedal. I feel I have a lot of options for bass now. I can get really clean with just a DI, go super dirty with the Amp, blend the two, or use the preamp pedal or one of the Art Pros. I already feel like I can do this with guitar, with all the different OD and boost pedals with just a Les Paul Studio, the bass felt limiting in comparison.
I do feel that it needs some decent compression, the peaks can get a little crazy. I've been playing with some software compression that's not so bad, but I'm really looking forward to getting those compressors next week.
Re: Guitar/Bass Studio Preamps
32I found and ordered one today. I suppose "dirt cheap" is relative, but this one was substantially cheaper than the other listings AND the seller accepted a slightly lower than asking offer.cakes wrote: Fri Oct 01, 2021 8:12 am I found a Symetrix 501 for dirt cheap on Reverb. Thanks for the recommendation!
