I'm going to go ahead and venture that the world has changed enough in those 16 years that a new prism might have new insight, or at least insight that is meaningful to people who were not intelligently consuming art in 2005.
I found it very interesting and fresh, really. I held off watching at first because I saw the preview and it looked like another version of things we've seen over and over again, but the focus on debt (with a lot of specificity to actual issues in Korea) and the twist in the second episode really differentiate it. There's bleed-through between the competition and the outside world, because the competition is not just an allegory for capitalism but is itself part of the capitalist universe. That's what really makes it tick.
Yeah. Kinda why I have a hard time watching it. Hits a little close to home. (Though, they'd never get me in a game scenario though. I get math anxiety, so fuck that that shit, I'll die in the street.)

Seriously though, watched the first half with some folks, so I'm on their schedule. Some of my brain sensors are all burned out so I can't trust my instincts on what is good or bad. I'm either dead to sympathetic content or I'm overly sensitive to it. Broken gauge.

But this shit is nerve-wracking. Seems like it might have some cool stuff going on though. Second episode was cool. My guess is the rest has death, death, more death, and a grim ending that indicts humanity. Couple of curve balls, but those are the beats. Fair enough. I'm not going to argue with its accuracy. Fuck debt.
