Eeee...this is NME level buzz extremism. At best they're this season's Nada Surf...
Yeah, not even in the same general ballpark IMHO.

I get why people like it, but like a lot of music people like, it seems thoroughly mediocre at best, and I can't imagine listening to it on purpose again.

Just to clarify, they match that *spirit*. The first B-52s and Modern Lovers records are all-time favorites of mine. I like the Wet Leg record quite a bit, but it ain’t that.

But Wet Leg, like the B-52s, formed kind of on a lark, just to have fun. They became a serious band accidentally. There’s a lot to admire about that.

Comparing Wet Leg to Last Splash doesn’t seem crazy to me, to be honest. Neither record is Pod.

I don't know anything about Harry Styles, or even this particular rendition but it would be no small thrill to find out someone high on the proverbial food chain heard your song & liked it enough to work it out AND perform it live.

HS seems like a decent singer. Drummer is playing a RAD old kit. Can't quite make out what it is.

Wet Leg is a #1 chart topper in the UK, so it's not he's covering something off the wall. While their music is pretty much crap, I saw an interview with the Wet Leg girls and they seem genuine and similarly bewildered by their success.

Ah, see I did not know this. AFAIK, they were barely a blip over here but even then, I'm just judging that based on the small/medium sized venues they played here on tour as I avoid music publications like they were infested w/ ticks.

Sarah Jones, who's played in several other well-known bands whose names initially escaped me but wiki says include Bat for Lashes, Hot Chip and Bloc Party.

Kit looks like it has Slingerland badges but not totally sure.

Irrational prejudice: standing percussionists who 'augment' the rhythm section. Although their charmed lives are occasional interrupted by the need to tap a snare or rattle something, they mostly seem to throw a series of 'shapes' and moves that illustrate how trapped the traditional drummer is on their throne, aka doing the actual rhythmic work.

Ha. when I saw this thread back at the top, I said to myself "oh , I bet they won some Grammys"
Where do they go from here? I had sort of forgotten about them already.
