Meh.
Liked the office and a couple of moments at the golden globes. But mostly crap
Stephen Merchant was brilliant on the Norm Macdonald show or whatever it was called. Very few could keep up with good ol' norm.

The best stuff he did, he was always adjacent to. Mostly thinking about the bit on Extras where David Bowie knocks the absolute piss out of him (or I guess I should say his character but also seems like a lot of overlap as observed up-thread) or his scene w/ Patrick Stewart.
Punching down is always crap and it took me way too long to figure this out for myself.

This was--unintentionally--his best bit of cringe comedy.
Surely not unintentional. He must have known it makes him look like a prick. I'm just not sure if there's a meaningful distinction for him between looking like a prick and comedy.

Concur, the intent seems clear. But he undermines it (for me at least) by his obvious vanity. So rather than a funny looking bloke in a loin cloth you get gorgeous slim Ricky, and there goes the humour.
He really took the wrong lesson from that Bowie song.

He was trying to be provocative, I'm sure, but I don't think he was going for embarrassing, which is where he landed.

I hate to put him in the company of Adam Sandler, but I agree that he's adjacent to anything funny. That Derek show was fucking terrible, and only salvaged at all by Karl Pilkington.

He's a dolt. Huge waffles for his righteous appreciation of dogs.
