In England and Scotland, sport has essentially replaced warfare as a means of dealing with local tensions and aggressive attitudes. A lot of the hooliganism associated with English Premiership games occurs outside of the game when rival gangs gather simply to fight. From an observer's point of view, that never happened in the States because sport has always been something of a family affair on that side of the Atlantic. In Europe, attendances are generally male-dominated so there's a greater tendency towards violence.
And yeah, a lot of my information comes from the same documentary as sparky mentioned - it was very informative.

something tells me linus sat in the front of all his classes growing up and raised his hand a lot. i believe he also tended to eat lunch alone and frequently was suckerpunched in the hallways.

Correct,
Correct at first and later less so,
Incorrect,
Pretty much correct.
But of course, this line of argument says a lot more about you than it does about me (as others have quite kindly pointed out).
