I posted this elsewhere, but I'll post here too. Why not.

Jack White is one of the few people who has the juice to get this done. All of the features on this amp are the favorite circuits of the more intense Fender amp nerds. However, they are complex and difficult. Whenever anyone would bring up these ideas to Fender or some other amp builder, they'd get kind of shot down. Three knob verb, Harmonic trem, stereo tube power amp, different size speakers, etc. The amp companies would reply, "oh that's too expensive." or "so few people would want that, it's not worth it.", or "it would be too big and heavy." Basically, no one wanted to make the sonically coolest ideas because of effort and risk.

And yeah, now we have a $3k PCB amp. It's a lot. But it's basically a Pro Reverb (with a 15"), a Princeton Reverb, a complex reverb, a harmonic tremolo effect, and a tube booster all in one box. Let's hope they don't cook themselves.

He really does seem to be one of the few current musicians turning his huge success into cool things.

Kniferide wrote: Tue Sep 17, 2024 5:11 pm can you get that amp without all the hideous yellow?
I like the yellow! I don't care for the Third Man typography, but the yellow is cool (see my Balls VIP-40, which has a yellow faceplate, so clearly that idea was stolen from me.)

Also stolen from me? The little indicator of where the power switch is on the back of the amp. I did the same thing this year with the amps used for backline during the BBQ. Had bright yellow gaffer tape on there indicating where the power/standby switches were if not immediately obvious.

I know, for a fact, that I invented this, and I look forward to my royalty checks in the mail any day now.

As I was describing to my wife all of the cool ideas he was able to wrap into one device, I looked over and she had gently fallen asleep in her chair. I lol'd.

I have never played a Marshall and I pretty much loath them.

The place my old band used to practice in had one of those Carlsbro 50 Top heads, loved that thing. Halfway between a Hiwatt and a Marshall.

I’ve played dozens of them and pretty much hated them all apart from a JTM45 and an Origin 20 (which I ended up buying)

To me this is like saying "i dont like jazz". There are so many amps that have been made by Marshall and its a full spectrum of different models.

Not really. There should never be any jazz played, period. Jazz is a fucked up excuse to solo more than is "Eric Clapton acceptable".

My loathing towards Marshall amps is on a level that is more than just musical. If I have to go through the entire back line to find one that does not sound like something passable to my preferences, then yeah I can say that I pretty much loath them and don't wanna even try more than one.
