Not crap. Bummed to be in Florida (in town for a wedding) where it's still pretty hot and nobody seems to decorate... didn't feel like Halloween at all.
Someone whose house burned down in the neighborhood we're staying in came back with their kids to trick-or-treat, their kids were all dressed as firemen. They were the only ones trick-or-treating though.

Superbowl, Xmas or Halloween. Hard to say which is the most popular holiday in these parts. Decorations start going up in September. I don't get it but I do love an excuse to buy Tootsie Roll bags.
Costume parties are pretty much like New Years Eve to me. Been there, done that.
Not crap but also not very interesting.

Perhaps I'm looking at it through my childhood eyes along with recent stories from friends adventures, but it seems like a tradition that's fading.

I agree absolutely, and generally seems to be moving towards little kids supervised by hot toddy toting drunken parents, as opposed to older kids wreaking general havoc.

Ain’t nothing fading here. My 11 year old went as Rosalina with tons of her friends, my 15 year old was Elvira and her 16 year old peeps dressed up. Each group patrolled our neighborhood for 60 mins separately then hit up the rich parts of the neighborhood later and cleaned up on both fronts.
My wife and I set up in the front yard and passed out several Sam’s sized bags of candy.
The weather was fucking superb so maybe that’s something, but it was a happening night last night.

No one came to the door.
If only it were this easy to repel people year round.
Maybe I should keep candy on hand when I don't want to be disturbed. Like Larry David and his MAGA cap.
New neighborhood, or downward trend?
Not lots of trick-or-treaters in general, in the past. Even pre-Covid and during non-election years. I think kids tend to skip this block, as it's rather subdued, and it's probably just easier to amass candy elsewhere.
