Ireland also has a huge housing problem and bad healthcare system, among other issues.
I understand the spirit of the thread, but It's so very easy to cherry-pick and romanticise another country.
Nuance is welcome, I appreciate yours.
I just think it's good to understand the ways different countries have their shit together. According to the HDI there are about 20 countries that are better places to live than mine based on a group of measures. Some other countries host a similar quality of life and people tend not to think about them. Call it a Bourdain-esque antidote to American exceptionalism.

Also off-topic, but internet article writers really need to learn this idea called "brevity." That's one thing I miss about actual newspapers. The literature review in my graduate thesis was shorter than that essay.

Ireland’s healthcare system is so crap it will likely be the singular issue that prevents the reunification of the island of Ireland in the future. Giving up the British NHS for Ireland’s crappy insurance system… blah

Okay, thinking about this more seriously.
My favorite and most frequently visited country over the past 10 years is the Republic of Korea, i.e., South Korea.
Democracy- and western-friendly but also moving faster in adopting tech than the USA. Great food. Great people. Have had great experiences and made a lot of friends there.
Not sure how easy it’d be to move there logistically but seems like it’d be the easiest acclimation in the region.
Not perfect (a few recent leading politicians had issues with corruption and are in jail) but would be close to the top of the list for me if I felt like I absolutely needed to leave the USA.

Sadly, far-right populism and authoritarianism are on the rise globally. Trump is a symptom of the disease. I have no idea why the "common man" puts faith in strong-man ass clowns, but it seems to be human nature. We were talking about Scotland, but I doubt we can emigrate there.

I think this qualifies as "kicking ass"....
"If you're attacked by a polar bear, definitely do not play dead — that is a myth," she told CBC. "Fight as long as you can."

Sardinia is not the only region in Italy offering homes for 1 euro.
