I didn't see MBV until after the 2 decade "Hiatus" and it was a total mess. My thoughts were "I bet this was always a mess" They MBV that gets the most attention is Loveless and it is a studio curated soundscape more than the sound of a band playing. I'd love to see they just do all of Isn't Anything and I bet that would be a better show.

As far as "legacy" acts, if you can still bring it, bring it.
I’ve seen them twice in the recent past. To be honest I don’t think I’d notice if they were bad or good. Live it’s incredibly loud and messy. But as KR says, it was probably always like that.

I saw ELO in 2018 and again on the last tour. You could really see how those 6 years had impacted Jeff Lynne. His voice still sounds as good as ever, but they almost had to physically prop him up out there. I don't think he moved for the entire 2+ hour show. His legs or hips must be completely fucked.

I saw Mott the Hoople in 2019 and it wasn't just Ian Hunter (who was 79 at the time) and his touring band. Morgan Fisher and Ariel Bender were there and they all sounded good and looked like they were really enjoying it.

I really wish I had some great band that I could get back together for the hell of it. Not for the money, but just to play again.

The latest episode of What’s in My Bag features Dave Pirner. It led me to look up Soul Asylum’s Wikipedia page, and I was reminded that he’s been the only original member in the band for more than a decade.

(I’m not particularly a fan of Soul Asylum either way.)

I thought about going to see Soul Asylum last year. I had never seen them, and Let Your Dim Light Shine meant a lot to me in high school. But with Pirner the only original guy left, and them not playing much from that record, I decided not to.

Edit: I enjoy those What's in My Bag videos.

Honestly, I think I would only see them if they did nothing after "Made to be Broken." The early Hüsker/Mats hybrid was good. Not sure how Minneapolis bands managed to sound like that.

They’re pretty great, aren’t they? I even enjoy several that feature people who make music I can’t stand. Who knew, for example, that Sebastian Bach is a fairly funny record nerd?

Plus, every once in a while, you’ll get a Scandinavian black metal guy who (sincerely) refers to an INXS record as “a classic.”

Cheech Marin and Weird Al were great.

The recent Bill Hader one was good. I suspected he would have pretty good taste and that was confirmed.
