One other one that has been lost to buddy ascending to "Well, We Can't Go To Dead Shows Anymore..." heights?
While he did not exactly build a better mouse trap?
His playing was no joke.

Never mind that I would rather listed to this than most of the "Serious Answer...." options from the time.

Of the names listed, Eric Avery and Kim Deal are my favorites, but both broke more ground in the 80's - and they way alt rock was synonymous with being "funky" was definitely to Avery's detriment in the 90's.
Of names unlisted, I've had many stone outs to Scott Reeder's bass playing, love his style dearly. Joe Preston as well, and he gets credit for being in Melvins when they did their Kiss parodies, plus Lysol, probably my favorite LP they've put out.
Jason Lowenstein everyone already knows is a GOAT, I imagine the same for David Barbe. Kevin Rutmanis was pretty goddamn original too, wish it was closer between him and Sims.
Feels like there should be a British guy to come to mind, but guess not.
A vote for Bob Weston.

There's also this...
That is a straight up gem. Not the only one he played either.

Voted Rutmanis. Loved watching him play with Cows. Shout out to Owen McMahon as well.
Could've sworn I shared a post yesterday.
And Steve Popson from Polvo.

I think Paul Erickson of Hammerhead should be in here, if not as a technical player, at least on brute force and stage presence

Vern has great parts, especially his contributions to the best Blonde Redhead album.
