I kind of want to rewatch in now....I can barely remember it. Obviously Stone is also a Vietnam Vet, so he should hopefully know something about it.

Not an Oliver Stone fan, but I agree that he did take on some material that I don't know others had the balls to do. Making something good from that is a different thing.

The thing that I remember OS getting right with Platoon is that you fucking feel like you're in the war. Set design, colors, etc....all feel very real. Some scenes were good, and some were overwrought, but that's OS for you, and also why I usually can't stand his shit. Someone will eventually beat the message into you through the dialogue to MAKE SURE YOU GET IT.

The Seth Meyers/Lonely Island podcast had a remembrance episode this week with Will Forte and John Solomon (not that/our Jon Solomon) joining to talk about Val being in MACGRUBER. Went long on a few things that Forte wrote in this great piece:

Even in something like Willow he did a pretty great job doing essentially Han Solo in a fantasy film. Was definitely poignant seeing him in TG: Maverick.

Oliver Stone might have had good things to say at some point but his films have aged horribly and he's pretty far down the "actually Putin isn't all that bad" path now.

People's opinions change, for better or worse, as they get older. Give yourself 10 years, you'll all be telling us something profoundly disturbing in how to properly negotiate mortgage rates or something.

Talk Radio is a good movie, if rather uncomfortable/kind of a hellride.

The Doors was not good, but he was a very convincing Morrison. Fantastic as Doc H.

I kind of liked JFK too.
