Shouldn't it be that you're never supposed to admit that you like them even if you're at their gig?

By the way, "Gimme Shelter" by the Stones.
Pretty sure the intro to that song ranks in my top 10 best moments in music.

You're joking, right?

Of all the songs by this band, you not only pick one off the shitty second album but you pick one of the worst ones on there.
What's wrong with "Waterfall" or "Elephant Stone"?
I might have even accepted "Fool's Gold".

Kraftwerk: "Autobahn"

Señor Coconut's version of same has a funny variation of the intro.

Also, Richard Thompson's "Calvary Cross". Good god.

stone roses

Coincidentally, a slow afternoon at work has seen me rifle through old email folders from a few years ago. Here's a little nugget I don't remember writing to a (Mancunian) friend. I'm astonished I was so generous about the first album; I turned 16 in 1988 and would have been ideally poised to make the sound of Madchester my musical year zero yet The Stone Roses have always meant nothing to me.

I've said it before and I'll say it again - the Stone Roses are the most spectacularly overrated group of the last 15 years. This is not to say they're bad, of course - although "Second Coming" is a total clunker. Arguing over "best ever" listings is largely the preserve of the twat, and I'm as guilty as anyone of that, but let's get things in perspective here - the Roses went from being the biggest joke in Manchester to being the spokesmen for a generation to gak-addled tossers even quicker than Oasis did. They may well have made one undoubtedly great album - this does not make them a great band, and those who use the phrase "greatest band of all time" & "greatest album of all time" in the same sentence as the Roses are being a bit silly, frankly. Relevance don't enter into it, as without the Beatles (or Buffalo Springfield, or Love, or Can, or The Rain Parade), the Roses would be remembered, if at all, as little more than a bunch of Ryman's league goth no-marks notable for kick-offs at their gigs and spraying their names on every listed building in the city centre of Manchester. FACT-O-MATIC.

Brett, thank you for reminding me of the beautiful intro to "Song Remains The Same" by Zeppelin oddly off of the best album they ever did which is House of the Holy.

One of my all-time favorite songs and definitely one of the best intros. I should have put that on my list!
