her records happen to be the only music that calms me to the point of sleep, even more than eno, reich or satie. however, live she is total crap. she needs to take a cue from the dude from XTC and give up live performance.
but given the "makes me sleep" factor, I have to give her a not crap overall rating.

New album bores me to tears. (makes scrunched up crying face)

34I haven't listened to her music because I am afraid I would slip into some kind of coma.

i'm hearing a little bit of dylan in there too. definitely not boring. whoever called it boring starbucks music paints a false picture of the coldplay variety.
the first and last tracks on the greatest are...great. (sorry)

Man, that song, about the kids and the colors, amazing. Best thing she will ever write. Her most recent records prove that.
Her cover of the Velvet Underground song about Lou Reed and the reason that he must find, also amazing.
I've begun to wonder recently if her antics aren't at all planned? It certainly has hurt her fame. Can someone that erratic really get this far for this long while being sef-managed? Did Gerard Cosloy just recruit a better than average looking drama nerd to mold into his indie chanteuse?
She does look pretty hot on that album about the pictures of the moon.

37I haven't heard the Greatest, but the first three albums are all absolutely amazing. Yeah they've got some shoddier bits and some weaker songs, but there's some amazing moments on them. I actually think she's underrated as a songwriter, especially on Moon Pix - some of the arrangements, instrumentation, changes are amazing.
However, I have never seen her live and have heard a lot of bad about her live performances. And Tommydski, that is some Cat Power story. That makes her sound like a total dickhead. I vaguely hope she isn't a cunt because I really like her music, but then again at the same time I'm not all that bothered. I don't want her to be nice to me or anything, just make some more good records.

38NOT CRAP...Myra Lee and What Would the Community Think are GREAT, i say...the others are good to very good as well...except for the new one...last weekend i took a little "peek" at the listening station in a record store...some of the songs sounded good...some of them sounded BAD...i'd never said that about her music until like a week ago or whatever...which is sad i guess...i mean, i only listenend to the first little bit of a few songs...but still...songs usually don't start out bad and get good...and i've been a longtime fan...

39she writes some very nice songs.
i have never seen her live. recently a friend convinced me to come along with her to see a cat power show, but it was canceled on account of something-or-other.
i had no idea she had such a horrible reputation as a performer.. apparently i lucked out and saved myself 20 bucks!
anyway, very nice songs. i vote not crap.

40Being another "wee bit crazy" female musician, I can't bash her. A lot of her odd behavior actually makes a scary lot of sense to me, and I doubt I'd behave any better in the same situations. I'm just not as cute, so I wouldn't be able to get away with it like she has.
I like her music OK, although some of it is a little contrived. It's her fans I hate. I think she's entitled to be crazy bitch with fans like hers.
