Live 8

That Pink Floyd thing's gonna suck big time, i wouldn't even have wanted to see them when they did the Dark Side tour, not a band that works well live, especially when they're not talking to each other...
With regards to Live 8 and Make Poverty History, they are spereate campaings. The MPH thing has been running for about a year and is a huge conglomeration of lots of smaller organisations ranging from church groups to anarchist syndicates. They have all got together to put pressure onto their governments to look at their attitudes towards poverty in general, normally bearing Africa specifically in mind. As a group they have organised many workshop events and pressure groups and petitions and vigils and benefit shows, all with the aim of raising awareness. I don't know where you get the idea that if 'someone puts their hand up and says, "Cool... how?", you tend to get blank looks.' I know that I have read many many informative articles and essays that contain very easy and reasonable ways that the problem of world poverty could actually be almost wiped out. ut of course, they are only easy and reasonable ways if you are not a greedy government only looking out for your own interests, or the World Bank...
You could say I guess that Geldof has kind of hijacked the MPH campaign by organising the Live8 concerts and giving his backing. But then, it has greatly increased the publicity, which in turn should serve to greatly increase the pressure the group is able put on the governments...
