cryptonomicon is my favorite book.

stephenson's "baroque cycle", written after cryptonomicon, is a separate story which runs on similar themes, involving 17th and 18th century ancestors of the characters in cryptonomicon (which takes place in the 1940's and 1990's).

the three books in the baroque cycle are a bit long-winded, but worth the effort, if you like cryptonomicon.

god, i'm tired of typing that word.

i've read 'the big U', 'snow crash', 'zodiac', and... um... i think that's it. suffice it to say he's gotten better as time has passed, though i know a lot of people who think 'snow crash' is "the shit".

Cryptonomicon is great, I had a hard time getting into his other books, other than Big U, but everyone else I know feels pretty much the opposite

of the Baroque Cycle I made it about 400 pages into the first book and my interest really wained, I wanted the book to get where ever it was going faster. a lot faster.

Thanks.

Yeah, I'm only like 40 pages into thatbookwediscussedwiththelongtitle, but everytime I see his name mentioned it's usually followed with much praise about Cryptoninoinoinmnmcon and the Baroque Cycle, but I've read mixed reviews of the earlier stuff.

I kind of have issues with starting books that weigh more than I do for this exact reason. I don't want to get halfway through it and decide it's not worth finishing. I feel then like I've wasted time that would have been better spent rereading The Firm.

Certainly not me, however, I'm not a "guy" either so maybe cooleness doesn't count.

Picked it up this weekend, started reading last night and got 1/2 way through; will probably finish tonight. No telling, Johnny 13.

This has been sort of uplifting, as I just finished The Book Of Jamaica by Russell Banks on Sunday. Terrific writer, terrific novel, but not exactly cheery.

I meant "guys" in a unisex, non-pejorative kind of way. ^_^

I would never spoil anyone's reading experience. Enjoy.

He's got a new one out too, called No Country For Old Men. I'm anxious to read it.

Scimmia del Signore a voi, amico. Non "grumpy", appena "surly" generalmente.

Ciao!
