aidswolf looks to be a bit of a jackass. i'm glad he didn't win it, assuming that's even a real account. look at the bid history. he "accidentally" put in a bid of $22,000, which he retracted after he found out what the then-current high bidder's maximum bid was. shady, shady move. unless it was, um, legitimately, uh, an uh, accident. yeah...

that was a fun auction to watch. especially since i was simultaneously hoping that nobody would bid, so i could offer steve $2K cash for it, and also hoping it would sell for as much as possible, so i could just spend my money recording at electrical instead of fighting urges to get into any kinda near-$2K bidding war. as soon as it broke $2300 i was like, alright, i'm not even gonna think about bidding anymore. it sold for less than i woulda thought, but still, not bad. i'm sure it's much more than steve paid for it 15 years ago. everybody wins!!! except aidswolf. HA!

What do you think he's gonna do with it... play it in his band, or put it in his store for $5,000 and hope some kid knows who Zeni Geva are?

Or maybe have it refinished and try to pawn it off as an "original" TB3000?

if you look on that website you linked, the contact email for that band is waitebt at aol... so maybe it's not his dad that owns the store but rather he himself owns it? whatever the deal is, i find it pretty interesting. so that's nice.

it would be so shitty to refin it and sell it as original, though it would take a guy who wasn't gonna research it to buy the thing, what with the super-high serial number on the neck.

the best part of that band's website?

"West just finished recording a new album in Portland and now we are broke. We welcome any and all contributions – please send your cash, or hockable possessions to [edit by moderator]Address Removed[/edit]."

heh. broke. heh.

shit. sorry to hear that. still though, on the surface anyway it looks like they went about bidding in a kinda shady way. making a $22,000 bid on accident... it's entirely possible, but looks so very suspicious. i'm sure i've been at least slightly biased by the "aids" part, too, which i now assume is cool in a way i don't immediately get. if call them friends, then obviously they are not shitbags. :)

a consolation prize for him though, i can get him some US Maple memorabilia if he'd like. i think they left at least a couple set lists and who knows what else when they vacated the practice space. i'll keep an eye out for anything an enthusiast might enjoy and let you know, when i finally get around to cleaning the giant mess up.

it's funny how easily my opinion can be swayed. now i'm bummed that it went to, apparently, either a gear dealer or a kid with a name that smacks of old money, rather than the canadian who's a hardcore fan and friend to a known good guy.

oh well!
