I voted for Davis. His ideas and evolution as an artist...too incredible. Bitches Brew...what an idea...what a band.

I love both of these artists very much. I chose Davis pretty quickly, yet...it hurt to have to choose...

coltrane vs. ornette coleman is an interesting choice. i think i still take coltrane, but it's interesting.

Yeah, I'd agree. Which is why this poll is off target.

A trumpet player should be compared to a trumpet player, ditto w/ the tenor saxophone. Miles to Dizzy or Coltrane to Rollins would be credible, etc.

If you wish to get specific about their compositional prowess and influence, then state that in your poll.

With that said, The composer of the two was Miles Davis. And the record is E.S.P.

Coltrane made "The Ascension."

Davis made "On the Corner."

Davis's autobiography was incredibly interesting and real.

Coltrane's autobiography could've done twice the work in half the time had it ever been written.

Both really hated white folks.

Can't decide.

Coltrane made "My Favorite Things." (I haven't heard "Ascension" yet.)

Davis made "Get Up With It."

They both made "Kind of Blue."

Davis's autobiog was amazing.

I haven't read Trane's.

Davis's attitude towards white people was complicated to say the least. He hated many that he met but worked with Bill Evans for a long time and says in his autobiog that the best friend he ever had was Gil Evans, who he worked with for an even longer time, so I don't know if I can say that he just hated white people and that's it.

I can't decide either.

Trane never had an autobiography as far as I know, but from what I've pieced together reading about him, it would've been excellent.

Coltrane could make "My Favorite Things" not suck.

I mean, that's superhuman.
